Cantabile of Skagit Valley, recently announced their spring concert will be held March 29, 2008 at Bethany Covenant Church in Mount Vernon. The concert will benefit Skagit Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build project. The group will sing American favorites such as Camptown Races; Down in the Valley; the Battle Hymn of the Republic and When Johnny Comes Marching Home.
The concert, to be held at 7:30 pm in the sanctuary of Bethany Covenant Church at 1319 South 18th Street in Mount Vernon, is free to the public. A free will offering will be taken to benefit Skagit Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build Project.
As a division of the local chapter of Habitat for Humanity, Skagit Women build is the first project of its kind north of Seattle. Women from all walks of life have joined to raise the $130,000 needed to build a home in Skagit County for a family in need. Since Habitat for Humanity International founded Women Build in 1991, nearly 1,000 homes have been built by women crews.
Cantabile of Skagit Valley is conducted by Music Director and Co-Founder David Cross. Founded in the fall of 2006, it is an auditioned non-professional ensemble of 20 balanced voices. “Cantabile” is an adjective meaning songlike, or in a smooth, flowing, lyrical style. It is usually used as a musical direction for musicians to play or sing in a “Cantabile” style. Cantabile performs with warmth and flexibility and an added extra element of energy and dynamism.
Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit, ecumenical Christian house-building organization dedicated to reducing substandard housing and homelessness worldwide. Since its local start in 1994, Skagit Habitat has built 17 homes throughout the county, with one in LaConner nearly complete, and recently breaking ground in Sedro-Woolley on the 19th home.

Tulip Town Hosts First Husband of Washington for Tulip Festival Opening Ceremonies
Tulip town will be hosting Governor Gregoire’s husband April 1st at 9:00 for the opening ceremonies Last year was the first year we opened the World’s Tulip Peace Garden. We are privileged to have Mr. Gregoire and hope to have a good turn out for this function. The Peace Garden started in 1990, as the tulip is the world’s peace flower because the queen was harbored in Ottawa during World War 2. She sent thousands of tulips to this country in gratitude. Ottawa and Holland started the idea of any country that truly wants peace would be invited to join there prestigious gardens. Ottawa awarded the United States next, because we have the longest undefended border in the world. The United States chose Warsaw . Each country has a significant story as to why they were chosen. The Ukraine was the new country added. When you see the 16 flags flying, peace is a wonderful movement. Regards, Jeannette DeGoede

Anderson Appliance Reaches out to Skagit Families
Anderson Appliance has recently launched a program to help families through our schools, local shelters, abuse centers, youth centers, etc.
During March, April, and May, Anderson Appliance will hold food drives for the local Mount Vernon elementary schools. Each month we will donate the food items to 2 or more schools for families that are nominated by the school themselves. Also beginning now, Anderson Appliance is collecting recipes from all local chefs (this means anyone) who would like their recipe to be in a cookbook that we will put together and sell for the month of June, and all proceeds will go to a charity that Anderson Appliance chooses. August will be a 'linen' drive, (all items must be new) and items will be donated to shelters of sorts, Friendship House, Skagit Domestic Violence, Oasis Teen Shelter, etc. September will be a coat drive for all ages, items can be slightly used and of course new is welcome.
Anderson Appliance is going to donate one of the following items each month in the form of a drawing. Counter-top microwave (white): or a Frigidaire upright freezer or chest freezer: or a Frigidaire 30" self-clean freestanding range (white):
For each person who brings in a bag of non-perishable food, they get to spin the wheel for an instant prize plus be put in a drawing for the appliance of the month, the drawing will be held on the last Saturday of each month at 11:00 am.
