In Autumn, the leaves turn beautiful colors gold and russet. The many leaves of music pages will soon be turning to reveal golden memories and selfless contributions, through Overtures, Movie and Video Game Themes, some to honor American Veterans. New compositions by students will arrive on the scene in time for this opening concert!

Skagit Symphony

On Skagit Symphony’s 43rd season opening concert, we’ll dance to the rhythms of Mexico and tour the stunning landscapes of Argentina. Jennifer Higgins Wagner joins us to perform a symphonic epic for cello and orchestra, the towering Cello Concerto of Antonin Dvořák, written while the composer was in America in 1894. Pre-concert talk in the concert hall 45 minutes prior to performance.

Verdi’s Otello is the pinnacle of Italian opera, one of the few adaptations of a Shakespeare tragedy which is equal to the play. From the open chords to the last fading notes, the music propels the drama of Otello’s relentless descent into jealousy and madness.

Sung in Italian with English supertitles.

International Folk Music Awards 2017 Artist of the Year Ordinary Elephant captivates audiences with their emotionally powerful and vulnerable songs, letting the listener know that they are not alone in this world. The collaboration of husband and wife Pete and Crystal Damore, their connection, and their influences (such as Gillian Welch, Guy Clark, Anais Mitchell) all meet on stage.

STARRY NIGHT CHAMBER PLAYERS

McIntyre Hall Presents

Doors Open at 2:00pm

Comprised of musicians from Skagit, Whatcom, and Island Counties, the Starry Night Chamber Players are the featured artist for the second concert of the Chamber Music Series.The program will feature Festival Music of Venice with works by Antonio Vivaldi and Giovanni Gabrieli.

Ticket price includes light refreshments. The intimate Chamber Music concert takes place in the Studio Space at McIntyre Hall. Patrons are encouraged to enjoy their refreshments during the concert.
