Port of Skagit – Fulfilling a Promise

The Port of Skagit is on track to assume ownership of the SWIFT (Sedro-Woolley Innovation for Tomorrow) Center from the State of Washington on June 29, 2018. The Port Commission and staff made a promise that under Port ownership, in addition to the property being used for economic development and job creation, the public would also have access to the formerly closed, beautiful, park-like property.

With the goal of creating a public park, the Port Commission will hold a public hearing to hear comments on transferring the ‘Pond Area’ of the property to the city of Sedro-Woolley so that it can be used for that purpose. The public hearing is scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, June 11, 2018 and will take place at the port’s Administration Building: 15400 Airport Drive, Burlington, WA 98233.

Port of Skagit Commission President Dr. Kevin E. Ware said, “Last month Janicki Bioenergy signed a lease for a portion of the property with the purpose of building a high technology manufacturing facility that will create a lot of jobs.  Now the Port wants to fulfil the other part of our promise, which are to make appropriate park-like areas of the property available so that they can be freely enjoyed by the general public.”
