The “So You Think You Can Plant” contest in downtown Mount Vernon was a huge success. In May, 63 contestants/gardeners helped plant around 70 flower pots in downtown. After allowing for some growing time, the Tulip Valley Gardeners, garden club judged the pots selecting three winners.
The Skagit Valley Democrats pot at 300 S 1st won “Best in Show”. Communion Church won “Most Innovative” pot for their edible plant pot in Pine Square and The Meeks family won “Most Colorful” pot for the wine barrel planter in Pine Square. Every flower pot that was planted has a sign with the contestants name so come down and check out the beautiful and diverse planters.
A special thanks to the Tulip Valley Gardeners for judging, The Mount Vernon Chamber, City Hall, and Parks and Rec for their support throughout. In particular, Bill and Sheri with Parks and Rec went above and beyond to make this event a success.
A high five – to Christianson’s Nursery, Skagit Valley Gardens and Summerson Nursery for providing expert advice and offering a discount to all our contestants.
But most of all we would like to thank our contestant/gardeners who gave up their time and money to show their support and pride in downtown Mount Vernon. Keep shopping local!
