Some barns are more than 100 years old, some were used for cattle and dairy farming, and most are still in use. The Skagit County Historical Museum has created a heritage barn tour including 55 historic registered barns. These self-guided tours include the build date, roof style, agricultural use and in many cases, the family history of many Skagit County pioneers.
The Talking Fields tour will help you explore the generational farm history, crop information, unique environmental conditions and artisan traditions of the Skagit Delta.You can download the Talking Fields Tour to your mobile phone device by scanning or on a QR code.
Visitors and locals alike will be delighted with gallery art walks, art installations behind glass, and artist demonstrations encompassing a broad range of media. The Skagit Valley Art Escape is a fun, social, and creative excursion to the best in art and music in the Skagit Valley. Mount Vernon has art booming all over the city. Visit many of the sculptures in the heart of downtown and various locations through out the city. The Arts Commission also networks and collaborates with other art centered organizations on a wide array of projects. They are a dynamic group of volunteers that are always looking for ways to support public art in Mount Vernon.
