The family concert has become a much sought-after occasion to explore and discover instruments of the orchestra and classical music. At 1:00pm children have the opportunity to meet orchestra members and see the instruments up close ~ and even play some of them. At 2:00pm, Jacob Scherr, Skagit Symphony’s newly appointed Assistant Conductor, will be leading the 45-minute concert of a variety of engaging pieces for the young and young-at-heart.

MARTIN TAYLOR              

McIntyre Hall Presents

Taylor has invented and developed a way of playing the guitar that is admired, and often imitated, by guitarists all over the world. As well as his solo concerts and recordings, he has also collaborated with musicians from many different musical genre including Jeff Beck, Tommy Emmanuel, Bill Wyman, Chet Atkins, Stephane Grappelli, David Grisman, George Harrison, Jamie Cullum, Bryn Terfel, Dianne Schuur and Gary Burton. He has been awarded two honorary doctorates, a BBC lifetime achievement award, Top 10 albums in both the USA and Europe, a record 14 British Jazz Awards and in 2002 he was appointed MBE ‘For Services to Jazz Music’ by Her Majesty the Queen of Great Britain. As one of the world’s most recognized online guitar teachers his innovative online guitar school with its headquarters in Napa, CA has been featured on NPR, BBC, Fox News and the LA Times and is subscribed to by guitarists in over 58 countries.

The Paperboys make a welcome return to McIntyre Hall this season serving up a heady blend of country-folk-celtic-bluegrass-rock with a bit of traditional Mexican music thrown in for good measure.

 

Lead singer Tom Landa and the Paperboys are renowned for their energetic live performances and create a buzz wherever they play. It is the only multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, multi-generational, multi-lingual, multi-instrumental, genre bending, co-ed band you will hear today!!

RISE UP!

The HAMILTON Tribute Band

Don’t throw away your shot to see Rise Up, the Hamilton Tribute Band! Rise Up is an ensemble of top Seattle vocalists and musicians that perform the amazing music of “Hamilton”. “Hamilton” is a record-breaking Broadway musical and winner of 11 Tonys including Best Musical. It is a sweeping national cultural phenomenon with music that marries hip hop, R&B and Broadway.

 

Rise Up delivers a performance that captures all the sophistication, detail and emotion of the music of “Hamilton”. Rise Up has performed extensively in the Northwest, selling out venues including The Triple Door and Columbia City Theater in Seattle; Washington Center for the Performing Arts in Olympia; Rialto Theater in Tacoma; Alberta Rose Theatre in Portland; Kirkland Performance Center, and many others.

YAO YAO

Brush Theatre, South Korea

Yao Yao is the creation of Brush Theatre from Seoul, South Korea. Yao is a mischievous little girl who loves playing with her dad. But every morning Daddy has to dress up in his suit, pick up his briefcase and go to work. One day, Yao, unhappy with her father’s departure, grabs his overcoat and accidentally pulls a thread that leads to the start of a magical world of adventure and discovery.

 

Join Yao on her ingenious journey to find out what’s waiting for her at the end of the thread… YAO YAO is a playful blend of reality and imagination, using interactive screen art technology and live music.

 

Recommended Grades: PreK K - 2nd
