THE SMALL GLORIES

Friday, September 23    7:30pm

Roots powerhouse duo The Small Glories are Cara Luft & JD Edwards, a musical tour-de-force partnership planted on the Canadian Prairies. Their material is welcoming in terms of subject, folk-pop melody and instrumentation — songs of love, loss, and environment, delivered with soaring, interwoven vocals on various combinations of stomping clawhammer banjo, guitar, and harmonica.

Luft, one of the original members of folk trio The Wailin’ Jennys, and Edwards duplicate and reinforce each others’ many strengths and yet allow their distinct personalities to shine through, resulting in a live show that is as heartwarming as it is hilarious, as finger-picking proficient as it is relatable, and as Canadian as, well… it’s very Canadian.

"Some things just work together… to witness a performance by The Small Glories is a rare opportunity to experience that indefinable quality that creates perfection.” ~ Americana UK

TWO CHEERS FOR DEMOCRACY

Capitol Comedy

Friday, October 7    7:30pm

Capitol Comedy, a newly formed troupe of talented sketch performers, singers, and impressionists with one goal in mind: to poke fun at today’s political and social events. It doesn’t matter if they’re targeting left, right, center, Red, Blue, or somewhere in between. The most discussed social events offer ripe pickings for a comedy group taking the pulse of today’s conflicted world.

Capitol Comedy’s new show, “Two Cheers for Democracy” takes some all-time favorite songs like “Stuck In The Middle With You” by Stealers Wheel, “Some Enchanted Evening” from South Pacific, “Reciprocity” from Chicago, and “Surfer Girl” by the Beach Boys, and gives them a few tweaks and a new set of lyrics which will have you rolling in the aisles. Think “Stuck In The Midterms With You” as moderate voters look forward with dread to the Fall 2022 elections or “Some Election Evening” as a liberal staffer discovers that, in politics, love does not conquer all.

"From ridiculous to hilarious, Capitol Comedy nails it with sidesplitting stupidity and uproarious humor. This quirky, eccentric production puts the spotlight on a witty, waggish Washington as it dissects today’s real Comedy Central right here in D.C.” ~ Elaine Mura L.A. Splash

ADONIS PUENTES & THE VOICE OF CUBA

Friday, October 21  7:30pm

Adonis Puentes opens up the marvelous world of Cuban music to his audiences the second they hear his rich voice. When the other players kick in with their tight, multilayered arrangements it becomes clear that Adonis is also a powerful bandleader. Fronting an all-Cuban acoustic orchestra, Adonis’ vocals are surrounded by guitar, tres, piano, bass, trumpet and percussion.

Music reflects the present and Adonis Puentes is a Cuban Sonero for our times. Adonis thrives on the growth and acclaim for his original sonero sound. As he puts it, “I feel like a messenger of my roots and tradition, blessed that with me I have taken my music and heritage to many different places in the world; from Cuba, to Canada, USA, Mexico, Europe. My mission is to make you dance and enjoy my melodies and rhythms.”
