HKP Architects’ Brian Poppe, AIA, Gives Back on National Day of Service

Poppe Joins Local Architects, Designers, Engineers, and District Staff on a Day of Service at Madison Elementary School in Everett, WA

July 12, 2019; Mount Vernon, WA: Brian Poppe, Partner with HKP Architects, recently participated with other local design professionals on a national Day of Service project at Madison Elementary school in Everett, Washington.

April 20, Earth Day, saw over 140 volunteers helping install upgrades at Madison Elementary School. The Day of Service was coordinated by the Washington Chapter of the Association for Learning Environments (A4LE) as they organized the labor and procured over $80,000 in upgrades for the school. A4LE volunteers worked alongside District staff, Madison students and staff and community members. Among other improvements, they installed a new kindergarten play structure, concrete pavers, interior and exterior furniture, new walk-off mats at the main entry, painted walls, and placed beauty bark in landscaped areas.

Everett School District created a video of the day—it’s available to watch on YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kiPT2j8Jdao&feature=youtu.be

“It was very rewarding to spend the day working with peers to refresh the school, helping improve it inside and out. I’m honored that the work we did will matter to the students, parents, staff, and surrounding community,” said Poppe.

The Association for Learning Environments’ (A4LE) primary purpose is improving the places where children learn. It embraces a collaborative network of global professionals with one single goal–building healthy, safe, resilient and sustainable 21st-century learning places that inspire transformation in education, enhance student and teacher performance, and support culture and community vitality.
