Phase 2 – Mount Vernon Parks and Enrichment Services Department

With the approval of Skagit County moving to Phase 2 of the Governor’s Reopening Plan on Friday, June 5, 2020 the Mount Vernon Parks and Enrichment Services Department is excited to open up certain facilities to the community.  Thank you for your patience as the City staff was cleaning, inspecting and making needed repairs prior to opening these facilities.  Staff is working very hard under particularly difficult conditions; dealing with reduced staff levels, nine (9) Parks and Enrichment Services staff have been laid off, and dealing with a 26% budget reduction.

We are pleased to announce the following facilities are open to the community; tennis and pickleball courts at Hillcrest Park, the Dog Park at Bakerview Park and restrooms at Hillcrest Park, Bakerview Park, Riverwalk Park and Lions Park.

The restrooms are open on a modified schedule due to our current staffing shortage.

  • Bakerview Park – Open around 8AM - Close at approx. 6PM
  • Upper Hillcrest Park – Open around 8AM - Close at approx. 7PM
  • Lions Park – Open around 8AM - Close at approx. 8PM
  • Riverwalk – Open around 8AM - Close at approx. 9PM

The Pickleball Courts will open every morning around 8AM and close at 8PM.  We are asking for your help in being respectful to the volunteers that have offered to lock up the pickleball courts in the evening so play time can be expanded to 8PM.

We are thrilled to open some of the park amenities to the public.  Remember, this is not a return to normal.  This is only a beginning phase of relaxing outdoor recreation restrictions.  Public gatherings, events, and team sports, among other things, are not resuming at this time.  People are still required to follow physical distance requirements and limit contact to 5 or fewer people outside your household.

During this time our parks are needed more than ever.  Our park and recreation professionals are working hard to maintain these spaces and keep them safe, accessible and benefiting our community during these challenging times.  Let us all do our part to use them in a way that respects each other and public health guidance.  Your cooperation is paramount in allowing these spaces to remain open and accessible.
