MHM celebrates the historic tradition of mariachi, performing songs in a tribute to the golden age of Mexican music, Latin music legends Juan Gabriel, Lucha Villa, Lola Beltrán, and José Alfredo Jiménez, and iconic Mexican films. Hits include: “Cucurrucucu Paloma,” “Los Laureles,” “Besame Mucho,” “Te Traigo Estas Flores,” and “Los Mandados.”
Mariachi Herencia de Mexico - an ensemble of students from Chicago's immigrant barios, is a relative newcomer to mariachi music with a surprise hit resulting from their debut album of traditional Mexican music, scoring them a 2017 Latin GRAMMY nomination in the "Best Ranchero/Mariachi Album" category. A powerful celebration of music and life with a showcase of splendid young talent.
Opening the concert: The Mount Vernon High School and Skagit Valley College mariachi bands!
This concert is made possible in part by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Washington State Arts Commission.
