| Do you notice the hands of the maternal figure in your life? The chances are they often hold bouquets of flowers, caress cheeks, wipe tears, tie the shoes of little feet, and hold and kiss knees and elbows. They make art. They work machinery, high-five, pinky-promise, give encouraging gestures, shake hellos, and wave goodbyes. They may be stained with soil from hours spent in the garden and kissed with spots from the sun. They cheer to new beginnings and embrace bittersweet conclusions. In many ways, mother’s hands bridge the world of experience and wisdom, to the young, eager and exciting world their children are encountering. The comfort and hope felt through the hands of the maternal figures in our lives remind us that on this day (and all days) to hold our mother’s hands as they have held ours for so many years.
