Skagit Regional Health opens new Station Square clinic in Mount Vernon

Members of the Public Hospital District #1 Board of Commissioners, the Skagit Regional Health leadership team, Mount Vernon Mayor Jill Boudreau, project team members and local leaders gathered on January 4, 2023 for a ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating the completion of Skagit Regional Health – Station Square.

The new, 30,000 square foot clinic located at 901 S. 5th Street in downtown Mount Vernon, opens to patients on Monday, January 9, 2023.

“Skagit Regional Health is extremely proud to open this beautiful, modern clinic to provide access to care for our community,” said Chief Executive Officer Brian Ivie. “We are also pleased to have a presence in the City of Mount Vernon’s increasingly vibrant downtown district.”

Mayor Boudreau complimented Skagit Regional Health’s foresight and planning for the future needs of the community. “Awesome job,” she said. “Congratulations on this expansion of healthcare.”

Much of the new clinic space is dedicated to primary care. Family Medicine provider Shelley Higman, DO was a medical student and resident at Skagit Regional Health, and is one of three graduates of the program who will be working in the clinic.

“We are growing new physicians and we are keeping them in the community,” Higman said. “The more primary care physicians you have in the community, the healthier the community is.”

The project broke ground on August 20, 2021 and was completed on time and budget.

Urgent Care, lab and X-ray occupy the first floor of the three-story facility. Urgent Care services relocated from the Skagit Valley Hospital campus to Station Square. The new facility will help address the need for medical office space as well as the need for primary care services in the community. The second and third floors are home to nine Family Medicine providers with room for growth.

“We will start with nine on Monday and have the potential for adding a total of 22 new providers into the Mount Vernon community, which is greatly needed,” said Justin Oram, Regional Vice President of Clinic Operations for Skagit Regional Health.
