Solar by Barron installs solar system for hosts of popular HGTV show

Solar by Barron, a division of Barron Heating AC Electrical & Plumbing, recently installed a solar system and battery backup for the home of Dave and Jenny Marrs, hosts of HGTV’s popular “Fixer to Fabulous” series.

A Solar by Barron team traveled to the Marrs’ home in Bentonville, Ark., installing a 52 430-watt solar panel system. The panels were manufactured by Silfab Solar, which has facilities in Skagit County and North Carolina. Additionally, Solar by Barron installed a 15kW FranklinWH battery backup system with the goal of eliminating the couple’s entire electrical bill and adding backup power for outages.

Brad Barron, CEO of Barron Heating AC Electrical & Plumbing, met Dave Marrs about a year ago during work on a sustainability series produced by Daikin, a heat pump manufacturer. Marrs was surprised that Solar by Barron had created efficient solar systems for clients in Northwest Washington’s climate and then began to consider one for their home.

“I know that energy will get more expensive,” Marrs said. “And the backup battery is ideal for times when tornadoes, ice storms and other outages occur in Arkansas.”

“From the beginning, our vision was simple: If we could make heating and cooling systems more efficient and then pair them with solar, families could dramatically reduce their energy needs and costs,” said Brad Barron. “For Dave and Jenny, that means a system that not only powers their home sustainably but also provides peace of mind when the lights go out.”

The system now generates as much energy as the family uses, essentially zeroing out their energy consumption. But Dave and Jenny Marrs said sustainable energy wasn’t just about saving money — it was about stewardship, caring for the earth and passing those values to their children. They wanted to fully harness natural resources from their farm and create a clean energy legacy.

Dave Marrs added that the project for his home went so well that he’s invited Barron to participate in a home renovation being broadcast this winter on “Fixer to Fabulous.” Now in its seventh season, the show has approximately 1.1 million views per episode within three days of the initial broadcast.

“I will not feature something that I haven’t tried myself,” Marrs said.
