Millions will see Whatcom business featured on popular HGTV show
A popular HGTV home renovation series is featuring Solar by Barron, a division of Barron Heating AC Electrical & Plumbing, on an episode that will air for the first time at 8 p.m. Dec. 23.
Dave and Jenny Marrs, hosts of HGTV’s “Fixer to Fabulous” series, invited Solar by Barron to appear on the show after the Ferndale-based business installed a solar system and battery backup system at the Marrs home in Bentonville, Ark.
Now in its seventh season, “Fixer to Fabulous” has approximately 1.1 million views per episode within three days of the initial broadcast and each episode airs multiple times during subsequent months.
According to the “Fixer to Fabulous” website, “Dave and Jenny buy a $5,000 lakeside cabin to renovate into a cozy retreat for beloved family friends. But when an unexpected and devastating tragedy strikes their family, the Marrs must completely pivot their plan.”
Brad Barron, CEO of Barron Heating AC Electrical & Plumbing, and Tim West from Solar by Barron will appear in the episode to design and install a custom solar and battery backup solution for the cabin and the Marrs family barn.
“Working with Dave and Jenny Marrs was an absolute privilege,” Barron said. “They care deeply about the families they’re serving and they’re incredibly intentional about how each home functions long after the episode airs.
“That aligns perfectly with how we think about comfort and energy at Solar by Barron—we’re not just installing equipment, we’re helping design homes that are more resilient, efficient, and sustainable for years to come. Dave and Jenny live out their values and are just as authentic off camera as they are when the cameras roll.”
For this project, Solar by Barron partnered with the Silfab Solar facility in Burlington, Wash., FranklinWH and Daikin to integrate high-efficiency solar panels, a whole-home battery backup system, and an all-electric, energy-efficient Daikin FIT heat pump. Barron said these systems help the Marrs family reduce their reliance on the grid, improve year-round comfort, and keep essential loads powered during outages—all while supporting their long-term sustainability goals.
A Solar by Barron team traveled to the Marrs’ home in Bentonville, Ark., installing a 52 430-watt solar panel system. The panels were manufactured by Silfab Solar. Additionally, Solar by Barron installed a 15kW FranklinWH battery backup system with the goal of eliminating the couple’s entire electrical bill and adding backup power for outages.
“I will not feature something that I haven’t tried myself,” Marrs said.
The system now generates as much energy as the family uses, essentially zeroing out their energy consumption. But Dave and Jenny Marrs said sustainable energy wasn’t just about saving money — it was about stewardship, caring for the earth and passing those values to their children. They wanted to fully harness natural resources from their farm and create a clean energy legacy. Watch the full story here.
