The City of Mount Vernon has announced the release of its 2025 Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) for local sales tax revenue allocated under RCW 82.14.530. An estimated $1.1 million is available to support the development of affordable housing, behavioral health facilities, and essential housing-related services within Skagit County.
New affordable housing units of various types must serve households earning 60% or less of the Area Median Income (AMI) and include individuals from various vulnerable populations.
Key Dates:
- Application Submission Deadline: August 15, 2025, by 5:00 PM
- City Council Applicant Presentations: August 27, 2025
- Final Awards Announced: September 11, 2025
The funding is made possible through the local implementation of Washington State’s House Bill 1590, which allows cities to collect a portion of sales tax to address affordable housing and behavioral health needs directly.
The City of Mount Vernon implemented the sales tax in 2022 and was able to award nearly $2.2 million in project and services grants in 2024.
